Slowly one by one the older boys left the house. Until there were only three left at home, Ben, Sam
and her, the oldest Jay would come around when their father wasn't home. He promised as soon as
he had enough money he would come for them. But he never did.

By 13 she had blossomed into a beautiful young woman. She had taken dance lesson since she was
5, and her instructor told her she had great promise to be a dancer. Ms. Jenkins talk to Leland and
explained that she needed more dance lessons and even offered to help pay for them or spilt the
cost. At first he said, "No". But later came around. Twice a week she would travel to New Olean's to
train with Mr. Kotov. At 15 she tried out for the New York City High School for The Performing Arts.
Two months later her father received a letter stating she had been accepted and would start in the
fall. She went to live with a family in New York recommended by the school.

She excelled in school, thats where she met Ren Alexander, he was a musician, piano was his choice
but he could play just about anything. Many nights were spent with him playing for her and she
dancing for him. After graduation they moved in together, both going on various auditions. She
worked as a waitress and he took odd jobs. They were going home on the subway. Just after
exiting the train a few young men attacked them, when she woke up in the hospital, she learned her
dancing career was over, and the man she loved was dead. Her knee had been shattered the
doctors said they did the best they could, but, she would be lucky to walk with out a limp.

After being released from the hospital she stayed with friends who looked after her. A month after
her release she went back to their apartment and packed up Ren things an mailed them to his
family. She kept a few things, his favorite flannel shirt and several pieces of sheet music. She missed
the funeral his parents had come to New York and took his body home with them. She was in no
condition to go anywhere.

She made a phone call to her Dad, and would soon be on her way home to Voletta to recover and
try to put the pieces of her life back together.

Born and raised in Voletta her life long dream was to become a dancer and to leave the Isle.

She was the youngest and only daughter born to Wendy and Leland MacCarthy. She learned how
to take care of herself fending off six older brothers. Her mother died when she was 10 and she
was devastated. Her father didn't cope well with her death and took to drinking to ease the pain
of being left with 7 children. Her brothers pitched in, but things got pretty bad for them. Her
father started beating the older boys for anything that went wrong.
